Understanding Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain can manifest as discomfort or sharp, chronic, or intermittent pain in the lower abdominal or pelvic region. Various factors, including gynaecological conditions, musculoskeletal issues, urinary problems, or gastrointestinal disorders can cause it. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial to alleviate pelvic pain and improve your quality of life.

Common Causes of Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain can arise from a wide range of gynecological, urinary, digestive, or musculoskeletal issues, making expert evaluation essential. Some of the most common causes include Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), a bacterial infection affecting the reproductive organs, and endometriosis, where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation and pain. Uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts are also frequent culprits, along with adenomyosis, where the inner uterine lining breaks through the muscle wall. Beyond reproductive causes, interstitial cystitis (a chronic bladder condition), pelvic floor disorders (muscle weakness or tension), and musculoskeletal issues (such as lower back, hip, or abdominal muscle strain) can contribute to ongoing pelvic discomfort.

Other contributing factors may include past pelvic surgeries, gastrointestinal conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or nerve-related pain such as pudendal neuralgia. At Katy Women’s Pelvic Health, we take a comprehensive approach to identify the underlying cause of your pain, offering tailored treatment options to help you regain comfort, confidence, and quality of life.
